How SpiceRouter Works

SpiceRouter combines managed Wi-Fi, DNS protection, VPN connectivity, monitoring, and security operations in one platform.

It is designed to be simple enough for home and family use, while giving businesses and advanced environments the tools they need to manage networks with greater control.

1
Step 1

Deploy SpiceRouter at your site

SpiceRouter starts with a managed router deployment at your home, office, or business location.

It provides the foundation for Wi-Fi, local networking, DNS handling, VPN connectivity, and remote management.

What SpiceRouter handles
Router status and connectivity
Wi-Fi and client access
WAN, LAN, and VPN visibility
DNS and filtering workflows
Secure remote management paths
2
Step 2

Connect to the SpiceRouter portal

Once deployed, SpiceRouter gives you a portal experience for viewing router health, managing settings, and tracking network activity.

Depending on plan level, this can include family controls, monitoring dashboards, team access, and advanced network administration.

3
Step 3

Your own DNS resolver, built in

Every SpiceRouter runs its own DNS resolver — AdGuard Home — directly on the router. Every DNS query from every device on your network is filtered locally: ads blocked, trackers stopped, malware domains refused. No remote processing.

On Business plans, AdGuard Home's upstream is Cloudflare Gateway DoH for identity-based filtering. On Home and Free, it uses encrypted DNS (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1). You also get Wi-Fi management, guest networks, family profiles with per-device parental controls, and screen time schedules.

4
Step 4

Monitor network and security signals

SpiceRouter surfaces operational and security information so you can understand what is happening across your environment.

Depending on plan level, this can include metrics, alerts, threat visibility, compliance reporting, and incident-response workflows.

5
Step 5

Protect your devices everywhere

On SpiceRouter Business, install the free WARP app on your phone, laptop, or tablet. Sign in with your SpiceRouter email — and all your traffic routes through your SpiceRouter for DNS filtering and threat protection, even on 5G or public WiFi.

Your security policies follow every device. No VPN to configure. Each customer's tunnel is fully isolated.

6
Step 6

Grow into business and custom operations

As needs expand, SpiceRouter can support multi-site operations, VLANs, firewall controls, static mappings, team roles, API access, advanced alerting, and custom deployment models.

SpiceRouter is designed for
Single-router households
Families with shared device policies
Growing businesses with multiple sites
Organizations with security and compliance needs
Managed or custom environments
